WHO estimates that about 7.5 per cent of Indians suffer from some mental disorder An estimated 150 million people across India are in need of mental health care interventions, both short and long-term, according to India’s latest National Mental Health Survey. Schizophrenia & Bipolar affective disorders found the majority of mental disorders with significant socio occupation dysfunction requiring rehabilitation. Out of the major psychological problems 80% of them can be dealt with effectively. But in the remaining cases, rehabilitation plays a major role in the recovery from mental illness.
Rehabilitation is a helping process wherein the Client is motivated, facilitated and encouraged to develop his lost skills and improve on his residual skills so as to become functional member of the society.
Keeping this requirement in view, Asha Hospital has started Asha Jyothi Rehabilitation Centre located in Malkaram village, Shamshabad mandal for the mentally ill patients in the year 2010. It provides treatment facilities for a short stay, respite care and long term rehabilitation.
The location is very ideal with greenery all around and is about 12KM from Shamshabad main road. It covers an area of about 1.5 acres and the Built-up area is around 30,000sft.
The Staff includes a senior psychiatrist (one of the directors of Asha Hospital), two full-time Psychiatrists, two Psychologists, an Administrator, a full time duty doctor, full time social workers, Care Takers, Adequate Nursing and Paramedical Staff, a Qualified occupational therapist, Kitchen staff, etc.

Patients suffering from severe and persistent mental illness require rehabilitation to develop emotional, social and intellectual skills needed to live and work in the community.
The rehabilitation centre provides treatment facility for short stay, respite care and long term rehabilitation depending upon the needs of the patient.
AJRC located in Malkaram village ,Shamshabad provides a holistic approach in managing an individual’s illness by focusing on strengths of the patient, skill training, cognitive remediation(improvement of memory) and a daily activity schedule to teach them time management.

All measures are taken to make the patient comfortable. Relatives are encouraged to visit their loved ones after a couple of weeks. All festivals and birthdays are celebrated to make them feel at home. Sports activities are conducted and prizes will be distributed to encourage their participation.
